Blooming Thai, Bloomington, Indiana

Blooming Thai (Bloomington, Indiana)

I always enjoy dining with a view. So I decided to forgo the cheerful indoor seating with deep-blue accents at Blooming Thai (riffing on the name of the city where it’s located) and opted to sit outside. Across the street stood the wonderful Monroe County Courthouse, a Beaux Arts beauty from 1908 with a great dome topped by a fish weathervane, standing in the middle of the main square in Bloomington and surrounded by trees in the throes of a colorful autumn. It’s a lovely setting to enjoy some tasty Thai food.

Fork and KnifeTry This: Start with one of about 30 different refreshing drinks, like the Thai tea with lime or the honeydew milk tea. For an appetizer, you’ll want the “Crying Tiger”—Thai grilled marinated beef sirloin, served with Thai hot chili sauce. For your main course, the yummy curries all sound fantastic, or you may want to see what’s being offered under the punny “Pho Ever” heading. But I selected the wonderfully tangy deep-fried chicken battered in an orange sauce and topped with orange slices and bell peppers, accompanied by a bowl of white rice.
