Dish of lasagna at Pizza BX, Porto, Portugal

Pizza BX (Porto, Portugal)

Bowl of soup at Pizza BX, Porto, Portugal

When the people at the table next to me at Pizza BX picked up their slices of pizza—one a marinara, the other a burrata—I knew that, despite the restaurant’s name, pizza was not a wise choice here. Pizza should not wilt and droop, and the sauce should not be soupy. I had been in the mood for a few slices, but not if they were going to perform like that. Instead, I perused the menu and found lots of other tempting items that seemed much more appealing, and Pizza BX (that BX is for the Baxia neighborhood, not The Bronx) redeemed itself with a much better lunch than I was anticipating.

Cheesecake at Pizza BX, Porto, PortugalTry This: Start with the excellent tomato soup with basil, croutons, and streaks of cream across the top—you’ll practically lick the bowl clean. Then move on to the generous block of out-of-the-oven meat lasagna topped with lots of gooey melted mozzarella. For dessert, don’t miss the fantastic cheesecake with lemon curd and crumbled pistachios.
