Halloween was still in full swing at Mystic Bar & Grill, just a couple of blocks off Old Town Alexandria’s main commercial strip. Ghosts, witch hats, jack-o’-lanterns, skeletons, pumpkins, spiders—I was
accompanied by the ghouls and gourds of the season.
In this open and airy space with multiple sections, I was seated in a comfortable booth along the brick walls within easy viewing of the bar with three televisions showing three different football games. Down a short corridor and into another smaller seating area, you’ll find classic arcade games, like Pac-Man and Centipede, to entertain you. But I was more focused on the food, and I was soon enjoying a scrumptious Southern spread.
Try This: Order that Southern tradition, a sweet iced tea, and then partake in the particularly tasty Mystic Cobb salad, with romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bacon, blue cheese, avocado, hard-boiled egg, and to put a unique spin on it with a little kick, smoked chili dressing. For your main course, make sure to choose the perfectly cooked baby back ribs, with meat that practically falls off the bone. It comes with a pair of sides—you’d be wise to choose the macaroni and cheese, and the cornbread with honey butter.
