Inside the airy interior with archways and pleasant seating, a singer and a guitarist were providing a fado soundtrack that filtered outside to my table at Elevador, a fine restaurant housed on the ground floor of the Hotel Santa Justa. On a refreshingly cool spring evening in Lisbon, it’s an ideal place to enjoy Portugal’s signature music and a very flavorful meal.

Try This: Start off with a very fine organic vegetable soup, incorporating ingredients from the hotel’s garden. Then cut into a grilled veal chop with homemade paprika, served with oregano french fries alongside a garlic and chive mayonnaise. For dessert, the lemon meringue pie with lime zest, a few berries, and a mixed berry syrupy swirl perfectly combines sweet and citric for a wonderful end to your meal.
