Daily Jam (Tempe, Arizona)

Across the street from the historic Hayden Flour Mill in downtown Tempe, Daily Jam has been serving up delectable breakfasts, brunches, and lunches since 2011. It’s a friendly, local place, a neighborhood joint you’d pop into every now and then, knowing that good food and no pretense await.

The menu is deep—everything from egg dishes to sandwiches (breakfast, hot, and cold), half a dozen smoothies, griddle creations, a full coffee bar, and much more. If you’re here first thing in the morning and your brain hasn’t fully fired up yet, ordering from this vast reservoir could be a challenge, albeit a pleasant challenge. Don’t fret; no one will rush you in this laid-back local eatery.

Fork and KnifeTry This: The freshly squeezed orange juice will stimulate your taste buds. Then you may want to try the red velvet waffles—the best in Arizona, according to Food Network (who even knew red velvet waffles was a thing?)—but I selected the delicious and savory omelet with bosc pears, havarti cheese, bacon, and sliced almonds, served with a side of grilled potatoes.
