The large blue awning with white lettering indicated that Blue Sea Taverna was a Greek restaurant, exactly what I was hunting for. The sandwich board outside with the tempting photos of their dishes was enough to capture my interest. And the aromas wafting out was the deciding factor that this is where I wanted to be for lunch.
Inside, I sank into the dark navy-blue leather seat and looked around. The blue and white of the Greek flag were well represented: white napkins tucked into blue paper napkin rings; blue underlighting at the brick bar; white walls decorated with black-and-white photos of rural Greece, fishing boats, and windmills; and a strip of ceiling painted blue, supporting a fishing net capturing starfish, shells, and other sea creatures. I perused the menu to the sounds of the staff speaking Greek, the final sign that I had made a smart choice for an outstanding meal.
Try This: Scan through the tempting appetizers and then choose the grilled halloumi served on top of tomato slices, chopped lettuce, and balsamic vinegar. This flavorful cheese with a spongy texture squeaks a bit against your teeth when you chew, and each chew gets better and better. Then enjoy the terrific swordfish steak, topped with capers and served alongside soft, boiled lemon potatoes. For dessert, tuck into the baklava with its flaky phyllo dough, crumbled pistachios, sweet honey, and a hint of cinnamon.
